Sphere of Influence

I went to see Moshav in Brooklyn last night. The atmosphere was electric. At the end of the song "The Only One", with the band playing beautiful background the lead singer made the blessing and counted the Omer for us, a hush come over the whole room, it was truly a holy experience.Tonight marks the first day of Rosh Chodesh Iyar. It also marks the beginning of the 33 days of mourning, in our upward journey of the counting of the Omer. It is a time to reflect on the tragic loss of Rabbi Akiva's 24,000 Torah students. Rabbi Lapan does a great shuir on the importance of finding a Torah teacher to study under and the lessons we can learn from Rabbi Akiva. In the end we are all teachers bringing our love of HaShem into our sphere of influence, so choose your teachers well. Shabbat Shalom.
